I am a mother of 6 and a grandma (and nanna) to 5! I still have 2 teenagers at home who do not always appreciate that I am a resource for them in their educational endeavors. Although I have a B.S. in Sports Medicine, I have always been passionate about learning and education! My elementary school principal noticed my love of learning and encouraged me to find new opportunities to learn, grow and explore at an early age.
For the past 7 years I have been a Title 1 aide at a charter school where I have focused on math and reading help for students in grades K-6. There has been a lot of emphasis for me on math specifically, especially grades 4-6. I have a solid background in Saxon math as well as 6 years of experience helping students in iReady. I have a parent’s certification in the Spalding Method phonics program. I supported my 6 children in a charter elementary school with Saxon math and the Spalding Method for a total of 17 years.
I pride myself in helping students find footing and confidence (especially in math) by noticing their learning style and encouraging them to use their strengths to adapt to the unique learning programs their school is using. I also love to motivate students to work hard to develop skills and tools they can use in areas where they are naturally weaker. Helping children understand there is nothing wrong with having to work harder at certain subjects and giving them an opportunity to feel pride in their extra efforts is what I find most rewarding. Ultimately, I want to be a cheerleader for elementary students who feel discouraged and give them tools that will allow them to adapt to each subject, curriculum and classroom they encounter.

I have always been motivated to learn and that passion has looked different at each stage of my life. Currently I am a mother to a very inquisitive and energetic 5-year old who pushes me to continue learning about the world around me as I watch her always eager to experience and question the world around her. I truly love this stage of learning for her and for me.
I have been concerned about the struggling student since I was a young girl. When there was a new student or a struggling student in elementary school, teachers often sat them next to me because I loved to help them in small ways, encourage them and give them timely reminders during class instruction without drawing unwanted attention to them. This desire to help students excel in their own way ultimately led me to becoming a teacher.
After graduating from Utah State University with a bachelor's degree Elementary Education I spent the next three years teaching elementary school children. I had the opportunity to teach 4th grade in Alpine School District and then spent two years teaching 2nd grade at a charter school. It exposed me to many different curriculums and styles of teaching. I have taught using iReady, Wonders, Saxon Math, Core Knowledge, Spalding Method and also received training in LETRS. I enjoyed being a teacher and helping children experience a love of learning and an increase in confidence in their abilities. I was able to find ways to connect with students and meet them at their level in order to help them progress and feel successful.
I am excited for this new avenue in education where I can use my experience and knowledge to help children in a smaller setting with more focused attention on their individual growth and learning.
